ACTING TOWARDS WHAT IS ESSENTIAL, RATHER THAN WHAT IS EASY AND PLEASURE GIVING

It is a common habit among humans to look for routes that are less painful and easy. Searching for shortcuts at every opportunity is no exception. If you want to be an achiever, you need to work with enduring passion, discipline, consistency and a definite plan of action. If you are just focused on work that is tension relieving, you are in for same serious trouble. Such jobs do kill your time, but would not take you even one spot towards your goal. Elton was working at an automobile showroom. He was entrusted with a target, that is to be reached before the end of the month. He began to feel that convincing customers was no easy going for him. Skipping work, to spend hours at a nearby Café and a Multiplex, became his regular ritual.

Do you think such an attitude would make him grow intellectually, professionally and economically? Well! Definitely not. As expected, he was terminated by the firm for poor performance and absenteeism. How many of us focus on tasks that are rather tension relieving, than the ones that are tough, but would definitely make us a cut above the rest. If you want to glide in the direction of the wind, you are welcome or if you want to control your flight and move in the direction against the wind, you still are welcome. It is finally you and your life. Only by your honest efforts can you generate success that you really desire. If you want money, you need to think, analyse and make some smart moves. If you want popularity you need to learn the art of winning people. If you want to be a top athlete, it demands months and years of dedicated and sincere practice. No matter what, you have got to do the right things at the right time. If you just want to be comfortable you may never be able to be successful. But, if you want to be successful, there is every chance that you are going to be comfortable.

WHERE DID THAT ENERGY COME FROM?

When Iron Maiden was set to perform in Bangalore, some people had come from as far as Assam in North East India and Delhi. On the day of the concert some appeared at least eight hours earlier at the venue and stood in front of the stage, hoping to see the heavy metal legends from the closest distance. By the time the sun set, most of them were dehydrated and struggling to be on their feet. When the band appeared with a big bang on the stage, the supposedly dehydrated and almost fainting crowd went hysterical and began to scream and jump, displaying a sudden burst of energy. Well! My friend, where did that energy come from? It is a proved fact that our physical performance is very much linked with our mental state. When you program your mind with a message that you are tired, exhausted and sleepy, that is how you would be and feel. Your eyes will droop, back hunch, and you feel like hitting bed at that very moment. When you are excited about a certain thing, you get tremendous bursts of energy which keeps you very much alive and active. The rock fans in the Iron Maiden concert went hysterical because they adored the band and had desired for years for their presence, to listen to their music, to see them in real life. Their mere sight was enough to shoot their adrenalin level and the pain was forgotten, it was a moment of jubilation.

A wife was completely exhausted after a hard day’s work. In the evening, her husband called her to get ready as they would be going out for dinner at a posh restaurant. Instantly, all her tiredness vanished and it was not long before she was dressed in her best possible attire.

How many times have you witnessed the sudden rush of energy, when something exciting was offered or happened? Did your tiredness and weakness stay? Well! My friend, this same energy gushes through our body when we get excited about doing a job that we really are passionate about, and that is what makes us achieve incredible feats.

THINK BIG FOR BIGGER RESULTS

We often come across people who have reached pinnacles of success in their chosen field of interest. They are loved, adored and also envied by onlookers. Most of us would love to be in the shoes of these magnificent mortals. But successful people know that their journey to the top had not been easy. They know that success is achieved by identifying our goals, passion, organized hard work and above all our ability to dream big and follow our dreams irrespective of the deterrents that crop up during the journey.

The tragedy with many people is that they think only a few can become successful. They limit themselves with their mediocre thoughts and accordingly they generate mediocre results. Remember, the Universe is abundant. There is enough money, enough success and enough of everything for the entire human race. The Universe never runs short of giving, provided you are willing to demand more from your life.

Dream big, have bigger goals; nobody became great having minuscule goals. Your thoughts are your most loyal slaves, they can take you to a life of good health, happiness and success or let you rot in poverty, ill health and regrets. There is no law in this world that restricts you from dreaming big. A true example of success, belief and enduring courage is Oprah Winfrey. She experienced an abusive and poverty stricken upbringing and eventually became one of America’s most wealthy and successful women. Son of a little educated boat owner in Rameshwaram, APJ Abdul Kalam had big dreams. He became the Missile Man of India, and then the President of the second most populated country in the world. What about Colonel Sanders, the old man in a white suit? He was completely broke at the age of 65 and went on to establish KFC, which is now a global giant. Companies like GE, Sony and Microsoft are committed towards excellence and they have changed the way we hear, see and use things. Pepsi and Coke didn’t limit themselves to their countries of origin. You can go to the remotest village in India and ask for a Coke or Pepsi, you are sure to get it. The success of such organizations or individuals is the result of their ability to connect with people, to think big and expand their horizons.

Everybody dreams of the best things that life has to offer. But, they fail to think big and follow their dreams. After frustrating months or years they lament, “I wish I had taken action.” The good news is that you can always restart or start in case you have never started. You are much bigger than what you think you are. You are here with a cause to make your life and the lives of others better. By thinking big, you make dreams possible. The biggest empires created by man, the greatest voyages in unknown seas to discover unknown lands, the biggest man-made marvels, world records shattered by athletes, were the results of enduring passion, courage, belief and their ability to think big and being unwilling to settle for anything less.

Remember, “If you are successful the world may not care, if you are unsuccessful the world may not care, but if you want to be remembered, you need to be successful.”

POOR ECONOMY THE ROOT CAUSE OF ALL THE TROUBLES

Often, we witness people mercilessly killing and destroying in the name of religion, race and nationality. The root cause of most of the problems in this world is poor economy. Though man has evolved throughout the ages, his requirement for food, shelter and clothing remains the same. If these conditions are not satisfied, he becomes frustrated. His disappointment would erupt in the form of anger, hate and jealousy. After a certain amount of exposure, it can take a violent turn. We witness that most of the crimes are committed by people who emerge from slums or economically deprived backgrounds and areas.

Sometime ago, I visited an underprivileged area in search of my painter, who had not turned up for the painting job for the past two days. I learnt that he was sick and suffering from typhoid. When I went back towards my parked car, I could see some nasty, deep scratches on it. The same doesn’t happen when I park my vehicle in a posh locality. You can witness kids running and playing near the car, but not a single scratch or dent. Well, Buddy! The hypothesis of “haves and the have-nots” is very much applicable in our environment.

I know some localities, which were prone to violence. Arson and rapes were pretty common. But after sometime, when the educational and economic conditions began to improve because of the committed efforts made by a few of the residents and some NGO’s, the crime rate remarkably began to decrease. If people are committed to make their economic conditions and educational levels better, the world would be a better place to live in - a place where each human respects the existence of the other and maintain universal brotherhood.
